How to Chose a Personal Injury Lawyer

I never thought I would need a Personal Injury Lawyer in my life, but when I was badly injured in an auto accident caused by a drunk driver I realized that I needed a lawyer to help me recover so many expenses and a lot of lost income. Fortunately, I was able to conduct a search for a lawyer who could do the work I needed. These are five things to keep in mind if you need to hire a lawyer for anything. I found these to be a great benefit for me.

1. Ask friends, church staff and local police for recommendations. Don’t stop with this step. This is just the beginning of the process of choosing a Personal Injury Lawyer, however, I put a name on the list if it was mentioned more than once, and these names became part of my next step.

2. The next step was to search the Internet for personal injury lawyers who had more than a few years of experience. Internet sites often provide an abundance of information about a lawyer. I could easily get an idea about how aggressive the lawyer is, and this is important because I knew that I would be up against a powerful insurance company. I looked for lawyers that expressed a strong interest in fighting for everything I had a right to expect.

3. I did not ask the court staff because they are prohibited from recommending lawyers, However, I did ask to see case files that lawyers on my short list tried or settled recently. While this information is not always available, and it does not tell the entire story about lawyers when it is available, it can provide some information about their work. I did not put a lot of weight on this step, but it was somewhat helpful.

4. I did a search of the web sites of the lawyers that I thought would be helpful. Again, I used the names that had surfaced earlier. I looked at their web sites for a hint of their attitudes. I wanted to know if they expressed a client centered approach to cases, or were they more concerned about settling cases expediently to make as much money as they could in a short period of time. Fortunately, all of the lawyers on my list seemed to be the kind that would fight for me.

5. The next and perhaps most helpful thing I did was to actually interview the top two lawyers on my list. I asked the questions that were important. I found that one lawyer seemed to meet all of my criteria after our discussion.
