Lee Daniels Heading Dubai Film Festival

Lee Daniels will be heading the Dubai Film festival’s jury for the Muhr feature competition dedicated to Arab Film Makers. The jury head is a American singer-songwriter and actor-director. He is best known for his direction on the “The Butler” and the “Precious”. He will be here in dubai for the first time.

The lineup for the competition will be comprising of many acclaimed directors showcasing their work. The lineup includes Algerian helmer Yacine Mohamed Benelhadj’s thriller “I’m Dead” and Egyptian helmer Daoud Abdel Sayed’s supernatural drama “Out Of The Ordinary”. The competition also includes Moroccan auteur Hicham Lasri’s “The Sea is Behind,”. The show is about a male Moroccan cross-dressing entertainer.

Masoud Amralla Al Ali, Dubai fest artistic director in a statement praised Daniels. He praised Daniels for being commercially minded, and yet “unconventional. He also told the media about lee being an honest and compassionate artist. ” He is the one who has created a mark for himself within Hollywood”,he added.

This year Dubai festival has collaborated with multiple local distributors. Some of the top brand names include Front Row Filmed Entertainment, Kuwait National Cinema Co, Vox and Gulf Film. Each distributor is allowed to pick one Arab title Screeing at the event. It is an initiative to secure theatrical distribution in the region.

The dubai fest will run from December 10-17.
