Job description
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Director of Sponsored Programs who will be responsibile for assuring that NYUAD’s portfolio of sponsored research arrangements meets all University, state, federal (US, UAE, other), and sponsor guidelines, rules, policies and laws, and oversees the day-to-day operations of Sponsored Programs. The Director will provide leadership for initiatives to improve extramural funding success, and encourages and supports NYUAD investigators in their pursuit of support for research and development programs. The Director will cultivate and maintain collaborative partnerships across diverse constituent groups within NYUAD and NYU to promote and enable the development of NYUAD as a world-class research university.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees and directs the University’s program of grants and sponsored research
- Leads strategic development of sponsored programs functions
- Supervises a current staff of three
- Creates and fosters an environment of support for the University research community
- Oversees and develops pre-award and post-award services, including the review of individual grant proposals with faculty and staff to ensure compliance with funding agency policies
- Reviews all modification in awards, requests for extensions and revisions in implementation schedules and negotiates with agency representatives concerning these issues
- Supervises the preparation of correspondence regarding grants and contracts; prepare and administers all sub-awards to partner institutions
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and cooperative working relationships with University administrators, faculty and staff at NYUNY and NYUAD; and with government and private agencies in the UAE, US and internationally
- Develops effective processes for managing NYUAD’s sponsored programs activities across NYU’s campuses
- Maintains an excellent working relationship with post-award fiscal administration at NYU and NYUAD
- Develops handbooks and guides to assist faculty and staff in the preparation of grants and contracts
- Oversees ORSP’s website
- Provides training lectures and events for new faculty and administrators in the NYUAD-specific procedures for application to funding agencies
- Develops & implements strategies to increase internal awareness of funding opportunities, including initiating and planning workshops for all interested parties on applying to specific agencies for funding
- Administers internal grant programs, including the Research Enhancement Fund, Curriculum Enhancement Fund, and any other programs which may replace or be added to these in the future
- Oversees the IRB and IACUC administrative functions to assure University compliance with these and other regulatory requirements related to research
Education Requirements
Essential
- Master’s degree required
Desirable
- A PhD or JD would be an advantage
- Scientific background a strong advantage
Experience Requirements
Essential
- Progressively responsible positions of leadership in the field of research and grants administration, including five plus (5+) years directly relevant experience in higher education, or other non-profit, research-based organizations
- Experience in pre- and post-award activity; familiarity with issues of research compliance; knowledge of federal agency practices, regulations and policies; and evidence of leadership success in comparable situations
Desirable
- Experience in international sponsored programs administration
