Job description
The position holder will be responsible for generating and editing content for University publications, online and print, produced across NYUAD assets. In addition to direct supervisory responsibilities, the Managing Editor will liaise across the University on all editorial projects; outlets include Salaam (NYUAD’s official blog), research reports, promotional brochures, University’s Website, Intranet, and Student Portal. The suitable candidate will also manage the editorial calendar, maintain the NYUAD editorial style guide and ensure quality and consistency of all communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee content creation and manage editorial calendar for various NYUAD media outlets, including the University’s blog and social media channels
- Develop, write, edit, and proof various publications and University collateral, both printed and electronic, ensuring they achieve strategic goals
- Ensure quality and consistency of all communications
- Consult with various NYUAD departments, faculty, and students to develop content for communications materials; create and monitor production timelines and ensure consistency
- Provide editorial oversight for all major NYUAD communications, including NYUAD’s website
- Ensure branding and editorial guidelines are adhered to
- Provide editorial support for departments within the school, as needed
- Copyedit NYUAD official collateral
Education Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Humanities, Journalism or other fields of writing
Desirable
- Master’s degree in Arts and Humanities field, Journalism, or other fields of writing
Experience Requirements
Essential
- 5-8 years of editorial experience (with at least five years of editing experience) and preferably experience writing for both print and online
- At least two years of copyediting experience
- Familiarity with various style guides (Chicago, AP, etc.)
- Background and proven success in supporting web-based communication
- Experience creating or maintaining a style guide
- Excellent command of the English language and grammar, excellent editing and writing skills, and organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
- Experience with production of professional quality print and digital materials
Desirable
- Experience in an academic or other not-for-profit organization
- Experience working with external media organizations
