Role Summary/Purpose
The Senior Counsel, Commercial for Middle East will have responsibility for structuring and negotiating a variety of strategic commercial contracts with GE’s key customers throughout Middle East, with a particular focus on GE Healthcare’s business. These multi-million dollar transactions typically include a wide range of GE equipment, software and service offerings.
Essential Responsibilities
• Working with the Commercial team as a business partner to identify opportunities to drive business forward and support growth opportunities, e.g. working with business development in structuring, negotiating and closing of complex transactions/ developing legal processes and templates for new business models
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating strategic business agreements and transactions
• Advising the business on privacy, antitrust and advertising/promotional matters
• Providing regulatory and compliance advice in conjunction with the Regulatory and Compliance specialist areas in GE
• Managing outside counsel, when brought in to assist
• In conjunction with the General Counsel MENAT (and other business counsel), managing / supporting the management of disputes and litigation
• Supporting the development and maintenance of a strong culture of compliance including assisting with Compliance Investigations and supporting Compliance Projects
• Applying combined business and legal judgment to proposed deals, relationships and other issues requiring legal or compliance attention.
Qualifications/Requirements
• JD (or equivalent) with active bar membership.
• 8 -10 years in regions business law experience at a large law firm or corporate legal department, including previous experience of drafting, negotiating and closing complex business transactions (i.e. purchase, sale and distribution agreements).
• Previous experience in identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively and ability to make on the spot risk calls.
• Previous experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast paced environment.
• Ability to communicate using English and Arabic, and preferably also able to communicate in French.
