“If I were to choose between theatre and movies today, I would blindly embrace theatre for the comprehensive team experience that the stage floor offers”said actor Naseeruddin Shah. “Even if movies have meant the world to me, I have felt it is more clinical in comparison, as our roles emerge in isolation”
The actor added this while in conversation with historian Ramachandra Guha. He is in Bangalore currently for the formal launch of his autobiography. Shah has his launching of his Autobiography titled ‘And then One Day….a memoir’ earlier in the city.
Mr. Shah is 64 years old. He has almost five decades of acting behind him. He said that , “There is a sociological difference I find between theatre and movies. Although I still love watching movies, I find the business of working in movies very tiresome!”.
His love for cricket for brought back when Mr. Guha asked him, “Whom would you vote for? Rahul Dravid or Sachin”. To this Mr. Shah replied that Rahul Dravid was his most cherished cricketer. After seeing the audience going ecstatic, he added , “I love Bangalore and its people”. He also went out to add that ” I always know that theatre personality B. Jayashri would make it big. I only feel bad that she never comes to watch my plays,” he quipped.
The actor took the Q & A session from the audience quite sportingly. When asked the serious actor about his future prospects he quickly replied that post the success of ‘The Dirty Picture, he said, “Don’t forget, ten years before ‘The Dirty Picture’ and Ooh La La happened ‘Tridev’ was released.
Perhaps 10 years from now on, one more such thing may come up when I would be nearly 74!”
