JOB PURPOSE
• To be the Company’s representative on the offshore jack-up drilling rig and thereby to be responsible for all operations on the rig and to ensure they are performed in a safe and efficient manner and achieve their objectives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure that operations are performed without accident, injury to personnel or damage to the drilling rig, the well or to the environment. In particular ensure that: safety and well integrity are never compromised and that operations are performed in compliance with the Drilling HSE Manual DRM Volume 3 and Corporate HSE requirements.
• Direct and coordinate all company Contractors involved in the well operations. Monitor the quality of work performed and prepare service quality assessments. Resolve operational problems as they arise.
• Plan and prioritize activities and allocate resources to ensure that the well objectives are achieved in a timely manner and within budget. Provide written instructions to the Drilling Contractor Tool pusher, Service Personnel and Night Supervisor (when on duty) prior to specific operations.
• Review the drilling programme prior to the start of drilling operations to ensure that the equipment and personnel on the rig are suitable to perform the work and that there are no errors or anomalies in the programme. Ensure operations are performed in accordance with the drilling programme, approved standards and the DRM.
• Participate in the Drilling Contractors STOP programme with at least one full “STOP walkabout (audit) per week and encourage active participation by all Service Company personnel.
• Report all HSE incidents in a timely and accurate manner using the SAP system and lead the initial on-site investigation of all incidents and near misses.
• Ensure that all risks have been adequately identified and mitigated and all relevant rig personnel are aware of any residual risks that may require special precautions.
• Ensure that adequate time is allocated to plan and organise non-routine or unforeseen activities such that they can be performed in a safe manner. In particular time must be spent to identify potential hazards and to mitigate risks.
• Monitor and control costs. Consult with office based staff to release equipment and service company personnel as soon as possible to minimize costs.
• Ensure all rig site personnel are aware of and adhere to the company policies and requirements.
• Maintain a record of lessons learned and improvement opportunities and participate in the continuous improvement initiatives.
• Report all daily activities and enter well data and cost information in Open-Wells (link) in a complete manner. Issue other reports as detailed in DRM Volume 5 Chapter 5 General drilling Practices.
• Monitor, train and support new company graduate engineers. This shall include assigning specific tasks to broaden the learning process.
JOB QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent. In special cases the requirement for a BSc. may be waived for a seasoned professional with a substantial record of performance as a DSV.
• IWCF Certified at supervisor level
• At least 15 years experience in drilling operations including 10 years as an Offshore Drilling Supervisor with an IOC or major NOC.
• Experience in drilling high deviated and horizontal wells is preferred
• Strong leadership and people management skills with a good awareness of cultural sensitivities.
• Excellent communication skills in English (demonstrated verbal and written skills)
• Commitment and passion for managing HSE.
• Energy and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding performance and going above and beyond normal expectations.
• Ability to make the correct operational decisions based on systematic analysis with rigorous attention to detail.
