Job Summary
This position supervises and coordinates a variety of functions within Patient Access Services relating to the Inpatient and Emergency Department areas including, but not limited to, patient registration, appointment scheduling, co-pay/patient cost share collection, financial counseling, insurance verification and pre-authorization for services. Assists manager in developing plans for continuous improvement and ensures the department is in full compliance with established regulatory policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervises and coordinates activities related to patient check-in, check-out, scheduling, cost share collection and financial counseling to ensure a smooth patient flow
• Reviews daily pre-registration, registration, financial counseling and other applicable departmental work queues to ensure timely resolve of patient accounts
• Generates and reports on Key Performance Indicators to ensure continuous improvement in the department’s processes
• Assists manager to ensure all personnel and department policies and procedures are followed
• Assists manager in identifying training requirements and develops training material to ensure caregivers maintain competence within their scope of work
• Maintains expertise of systems and processes that impact admission, verification, and other patient access related functions
• Monitors internal and external satisfaction indicators to ensure service excellence
• Assists manager with the development of staff schedules that ensure backfill and coverage is optimal to meet patient access and operations needs during all hours of operations
• Coaches and mentors staff, build and foster a team environment that embraces collaboration, problem-solving and innovation
• Assists with ordering supplies according to budget guidelines and department needs
• Escalates to manager issues that negatively impact the department’s processes
• May be required to provide backfill coverage for Manager or other Supervisors within Patient Access Services
• Other duties as assigned

• Minimum of four (4) years of health care experience

Education Requirements
• High School Diploma
• Diploma/Associate’s Degree may substitute for 2 years of required experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Banking, Finance, or related field may substitute for 3 years of required experience
• Master’s Degree may substitute for required experience
• Licensure/Certification: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) through the Healthcare Financial Management Association is preferred
